Frequently Asked QuestionsQ) Do you know where we can buy discounted airline tickets for travel between the islands? A) Because of marketing agreements between major domestic and international airlines with our local carriers, it is best to buy your neighbor island flights in conjunction with your flight to Hawaii. You can save hundreds of dollars by buying you inter-island flights before you leave home! Q) Do you know of low cost travel packages that include hotel rooms, airline flights, and rental cars? A) There are a number of package operators and you need to shop for the best value from your particular city of departure. In addition, there are packages available once you get to Hawaii but usually it's best to buy before you depart home. Q) We're traveling on free frequent flier tickets and only need a room and rental car. Are there any packages for just those needs? A) Yes, both hotels and rental car companies market packages including these components plus check your airline frequent flier program for coupons or special offers from partner hotel and rental car companies. Q) When is "low season" to Hawaii? A) Honolulu is busy year-round because it attracts more international travelers who prefer to travel at different times of the year, while the neighbor islands tend to be very busy in the winter months. The busiest time of year is December 20 - January 5. Q) When is the best weather in Hawaii? A) Our coolest months are November - March (70 - 85 degrees) with mostly evening rain showers but keep in mind that all our islands have a windward (wetter) side and a leeward (dryer) side. September and October are our hottest months (78 - 95 degrees) with the highest humidity. Q) Can we charter a boat and sail between islands? A) No companies offer charter services as in the Caribbean. The Pacific ocean around Hawaii is quite rough and can be treacherous, even for the experienced sailor. Some boats will charter with the captain included but definitely not "bare boat". Summer months offer the best conditions if you decide to pursue the "with captain option". Q) Is swimming safe for children? A) Most resort areas have protected ocean swimming areas, enclosed lagoons or swimming pools. Where there is an outside reef, the water usually remains calm but always check the water depth and if there is a sandy bottom. Where there are waves, it's best to steer clear or use extreme caution, especially in the winter months.
